Migrate from Essbase Excel Addin to SmartView

I am long time Essbase guy that was a big supporter of the Essbase Excel Add-in, but as you know, SmartView is the way of the future when it comes to Excel and Essbase.  Here are some Pros and Cons to migrating to SmartView:

Pros:
  • Integration with Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • With most recent updates, many options that are available for Excel Addin is now available in SmartView where previous releases, certain functionality was missing
  • Multi Grid Adhoc reporting capability
    • Multi retrieves from multiple databases, 1 refresh, no highlighting of ranges
  • Lock/send gone, now its just "Submit"
  • Easily create 'Butterfly' reports
  • If using workspace already, you can deploy from there instead of using an installer
  • Can connect to Essbase, HFM and Planning in 1 interfaces
  • Inherent "Cascading" feature
  • Better formatting options when drilling in

Cons:
  • No longer support for future Essbase updates
  • VBA, any reports currently created with VBA will need to be rewritten (new VBA code for SmartView vs Addin)
  • Multi Grid Adhoc reporting capability
    • Really only way to create "pretty" reports with member names repeated in column/row headers
  • Connect to Essbase only
I've made the switch...maybe you should too
